A striking home designed by Architects in Devon, Whitehouse takes full benefit of stunning views of the South Hams coast. The use of double height spaces and lightwells make this three bedroom house feel wonderfully spacious despite its modest footprint.  This new home boasts spectacular views of the neighbouring hillside and the South Devon coastline to the east.  

It is not very often that I am very impressed with a house, as I have seen a lot of impressive property in the last 20 years. However, I have to say that this house is exceptional.

Hilton Barnfield, Architects in Devon, overcame the privacy and access difficulties in a number of ways. These included incorporating timber fins to create partially private outside spaces. The dining room opens onto a partially covered outside living space and kitchen screened from the street.

The contemporary design is sensitive to the local street scene and setting. The public areas of the house are located at the front transitioning to the more private spaces at the back. A luxurious modern space at first floor level, with sliding doors, leads from a soft seating space –  for reading and relaxing – to a balcony and creates a further threshold to invite the outside in, with tremendous views over the lake.  The layout of the space responds to its setting and orientation creating different spaces for different times of the day. The clients enjoy morning coffee in sunshine overlooking the lake and watch the sun go down from their dining room.
